From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Lecture | Computer Programming for Developing a Better Society

A talk with Nick Montfort, Associate Professor of Digital Media, MIT. Programming is usually thought of in narrow, instrumental ways, as a means of producing commodities in the form of apps and websites. However, it is also used by many to inquire about important questions in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities, and can be used to make arguments about and build consensus on the direction of one's city and world. In this talk, Nick Montfort will make the case for general programming literacy and how this can enhance social and political discourse.

Tour | High Line Tour

The area around the High Line Park was a vital business district of New York City, supplying fresh fruits, French Cheeses and Russian caviar as well as fresh meats to City markets. Opening Reception | Paintings: Garth Weiser

Garth Weiser’s paintings explore the nature of perception. Weiser’s process often begins by making a three dimensional model of an abstracted form as a ‘sketch’ or model from which to paint. Coating his canvases with thick impasto grids or relief outlines of his composition, Weiser underscores each painting with a textured foundation which enforces the illusionary elements of scale and perspective and the gives a mimetic quality of architectural space.
