This neighborhood walking tour is part of Jane's Walk at Municipal Art Society. Jane's Walks are free, locally organized walking tours, in which people get together to explore, talk about, and celebrate their neighborhoods. Where more traditional tours are a bit like walking lectures, a Jane's Walk is more of a walking conversation. "It's also colloquially known as El Barrio, previously Spanish Harlem." Who has a masterful understanding of East Harlem community’s past and present history? A neighborhood librarian of course! Learn from these amazing experts who live and breathe community as they take you for a walk beyond their local library walls. The library staff will lead you on an exploration of East Harlem's rich and changing history. They’ll begin at the library and then we’ll walk the blocks around the building. You’ll be surprised when they show you some neighborhood photographs from generations past that we’ve found in the collections. And, of course, they’ll share some anecdotes and observations along the way, too. Space is limited. Please click here to RSVP.
