Tour | Greenwich Village Neighborhood Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

The hustle and bustle of the streets induced the City to elevate the railroad trains delivering goods to the commercial buildings. When interstate truck traffic made the railway outdated, it fell into ruin, only to be regenerated as a park. The tour is every Monday.

Author Reading | Dana Schwartz reads from her book And We're Off

Seventeen-year-old Nora is eager to attend a summer fine arts program in Ireland for the amazing experience she knows she’s bound to have, but also because she’s sure that the program will help boost her resume when she applies to art schools in the fall. So, when her grandfather offers to pay for the trip — as well as a few other European stops along the way — Nora’s bags are as good as packed. But there’s a hitch: Nora’s mother, Alice, isn’t so thrilled about the plan. She worries about what the future holds for her young, idealistic daughter—and her opinions haven't gone unnoticed. Nora couldn't feel more unsupported by her mother, and in the weeks leading up to the trip, the women are as disconnected as they've ever been. But seconds after saying goodbye to Alice at the airport terminal, Nora hears a voice call out: "Wait! Stop! I'm coming with you!" And…they’re off. Hilariously entertaining and full of heart, Dana Schwartz’s debut captures the deep emotional bond between mother and daughter with humor and authenticity while bringing readers along on a European adventure that will leave them breathless.
