Concert | Welcome May! Choral Works, Rooftop Madrigals and More

The month of May sees the onset of good weather and the beginnings of outdoor events. On the First Day of May there is a tradition of singing from the tops or towers or rooftops. Often this includes English madrigals (short secular choral pieces of the Renaissance period) and this will be the case this Sunday. Madrigals will be performed from the roof overlooking the courtyard. Choral works will feature music by Joseph Haydn - his beloved 'Little Organ Mass.' Refreshments will be served in the courtyard. You must be fully vaccinated to attend. Face-coverings should be worn indoors but are optional outdoors.

Tour | Paris Most Beautiful Gardens: The Luxembourg Gardens (online)

Located on the border between Saint-Germain-des-Pres and the Latin Quarter, the Luxembourg Gardens were created upon the initiative of Queen Marie de Medici in 1612. Today, they are the favourite gardens of the Parisians on the Left Bank of Paris. The gardens, which cover 25 hectares of land, are split into French gardens and English gardens. Between the two, lies a geometric forest and a large pond, where generations of Parisian children played with sailing boats. With 106 statues spread throughout the park, the gardens offer a variety of works of art and are the home of the Luxembourg Museum, the oldest major fine arts museum in France.

Opening Reception | Anna Campbell: Dress Rehearsal for a Dream Sequence

A site-responsive sculptural installation and the most recent iteration of a cumulative body of dream sequences. It employs props, scaffold, and trusswork to support models of representation for queer forms that challenge the gaze of classifying taxonomies. This critique bonded to the dreamwork of fantasy via form, space, and ephemera resists the social dynamics that reinforce our constructions of what may be understood as aspirational. Appropriated and abstracted references to domestic spaces, gay bars, and other more provisional architectures work to poach key signifiers of gender- and hetero-normativity and open them onto new attachments of possibility and desire from what might seem otherwise to be static and constrictive legacies.
