Curious about Chinese cinema but don’t know where to begin? Ever wonder why in China, experts tend to think of their directors in terms of generations? Want to better understand how China’s censorship works? Come check out this two-part in person lecture series, and explore some of the best films that have come out of Mainland China in recent decades. Free video links and other resources will be shared at the end of the lectures for those interested in exploring Chinese films on their own. Some of the films being discussing include Yellow Earth, Raise the Red Lantern, Farewell My Concubine, To Live, Beijing Bicycle, and Still Life. (Please note this series will only cover films that have come out of Mainland China since the early 1980s. Due to time constraints, Hong Kong and Taiwanese films will not be included in the series.)
