Republican Crocker Jarmon has no one running against him for senate, so campaign manager Marvin Lucas recruits Bill McKay, a leftist lawyer. Gradually, Lucas pushes McKay away from his leftist message and towards a more centrist one. As his honest and original platform gets watered down, his popularity goes up, and McKay finds himself running with Jarmon as Election Day comes closer.
