Dotty Attie's What Would Mother Say? is the eighth solo exhibition with the artist. This new series of paintings continues to expand on themes that Attie has brought to her work through the past 30 years: gender, politics, and how images often change the context of words Looking Forward, Feeling Backwards features Becca Albee, Arielle Falk, Jason Hanasik, K8 Hardy, Desiree Holman, Whitney Hubbs, Ace Lehner, Stephanie Leibowitz, and Elizabeth Moy. This exhibition is inspired by the forthcoming "Feminist Issue" of Capricious Magazine based on an open call for work about feminist feelings.

Opening Reception | 3 Exhibitions: Altered States of Reality / Elements of Abstraction / Portals of Perception

Altered States of Reality provides a glimpse of the world as captured through the lens of a camera, technology, and through the artists own inner vision. The gifted artists participating offer us a perception of the world, as seen, through a complex, enigmatic fusion of emotions and technical mastery. The old boundaries have come tumbling down and the new reality has been altered and is forever changing. Elements of Abstraction presents audiences with a rich kaleidoscope of color, form, and texture that in conjunction breathes life into abstract artworks. Whether employing shimmering brushstrokes or bold fields of color, nonrepresentational art, with its lack of familiar forms, allows the work speak to us on an especially elemental level. Through their deeply personal forms of expression, these artists offer a stunning glimpse into contemporary abstract painting. Portals of Perception bridges the wide expanse of artistic possibilities, gathering together impressionist, realist, and abstract paintings. What we find, surprisingly, is not the differences but the similarities as these talented artists vocalize the inspirations of places, people, and feelings. While the particular visual language may differ, the spirit behind the works has many overlapping areas, because to be human is to realize ourselves within our mental and physical environs. Featured Artists: Lil Dafonte, Rupert Davis, GISART, Sharon Hickey, Isaac Images, Joblueheart, Eleanor Owen Kerr, David LaBella, Clecio Lira, Uri Mahlev, Lymarie Rodriguez, Toktam Tayefeh, Maria Trezzi, Oliver Benoit, Alejandrina Calderoni, Magda Dini, Roisin Fitzpatrick, Michael I. Kotler, Rom Lammar, Anti Liu, Alexey Marroquin, Albert Barcilon, Paco Dalmau, Susan Marx, Alina Shapiro, Carmen Sotuela.

Lecture | Eleven Texts of Frankenstein: From the Hypothetical Ur-Text and 'Original' Draft to the Published Editions of 1818 and 1823 and 1831

Charles E. Robinson, Professor of English, University of Delaware lectures on “Eleven Texts of Frankenstein: From the Hypothetical Ur-Text and 'Original' Draft to the Published Editions of 1818 and 1823 and 1831.” The “fluid” text of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein reveals in each of its incarnations new secrets about the text we now read in the 21st century. Robinson will explore the stemma or genealogy of the text that he established both in The Frankenstein Notebooks and, more recently, in The Original Frankenstein. He will explain the extent of Percy Shelley’s editorial interventions in Mary Shelley’s “Original” Draft, describe the effects of the Shelleys’ original structure of Frankenstein as a 2-volume novel in 33 chapters, and seek the audience’s help in addressing a still unanswered question about the lineation and pagination of the Fair Copy as it relates to the first edition of 1818.

The Dudleys!, presented by Twilight Theatre, takes the memories of a young man and translates them into a malfunctioning 8-bit video game. It’s time to play. Featuring a live band with original music composed on vintage video game equipment (Atari, Gameboy, Commodore 64) and 8-bit video footage, THE DUDLEYS! pits the two-dimensional world of happy endings up against the confusion and aimlessness of real life.
