Renowned Greek pianist Janis Vakarelis has been a fixture on international stages since he won first prize at the Queen Sofia International Piano Competition in Madrid in 1979, and he has performed in Europe, North and South America, and the Far East, including Japan. He is known for his interpretations of the large-scale Romantic repertoire, particularly Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky, and he also excels in Prokofiev and Gershwin.
Founded in 1980, the Vienna-based Artis-Quartet won prizes in competitions in Cambridge, England (1983), Evian, France (1984) and Yellow Springs, USA (1985). Peter Schumayer (violin), Johannes Meissl (violin), Herbert Kefer (viola), and Othmar Mueller (cello) have performed in the world’s foremost concert halls.
