Tour | Greenwich Village Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Screening | Engaging Reality: Berlin's Rimini Protokoll

An evening with Berlin-based collective Rimini Protokoll. Artists Helgard Haug, Stefan Kaegi, and Daniel Wetzel create participatory documentary theater experiences in which real people, or "experts", tell their own stories, voice their own opinions, and illustrate their own circumstances. Recognized as pioneers in the alternative theater scene, the truly international collective has been commissioned by major festivals in Europe and elsewhere. Recent works have explored such topics as Egyptian muezzin, Muslim criers who lead the call to prayer, resisting the consolidation of their profession (Radio Muezzin); Athenians grappling with the Greek economic crisis (Prometheus in Athens); and jet-setting children of corporate executives who feel most at home while in transit (Airport Kids). This retrospective look at Rimini Protokoll's performance work will include afternoon excerpt screenings of recent major works (Wahl Kampf Wallenstein, Prometheus in Athens, the 100% series) and will be followed by an evening discussion between the members of Rimini Protokoll, Frank Hentschker (Segal Theatre Center, Executive Director and Director of Programs), and Gideon Lester (Bard College, Professor of Theater and Performance).

Park Walk | The High Line Night Tour

The area around the High Line Park was a vital business district of New York City, supplying fresh fruits, French Cheeses and Russian caviar as well as fresh meats to City markets. The hustle and bustle of the streets induced the City to elevate the railroad trains delivering goods to the commercial buildings. When interstate truck traffic made the railway outdated, it fell into ruin, only to be regenerated as a park.
