Dance Performance | Dance Performance: Transformental

With: kahiliksihr roninkode - flute Carolyn Koleszar - dance Elsa Keefe - meditation While the performers dance, play the flute, and go into silent meditation, they are surrounded by visual art: video projection, sound design, and 2D visuals. All these art forms serve a universal truth: all forces are inherently interconnected and must nurture those connections to insure the viability of a collective consciousness. The elements fire, earth, air, and water are essential to our very existence. They exist beyond creation and destruction. More importantly, they converse and rely on one another to weave life throughout our world for better, and at times, for worse. But there is always conversation, movement, and dependence between them. Drawing inspiration from these essential constants, the performers communicate beyond the conventional and the obvious, allowing parallels to be forged with the intangible exchange of the elements. From the still to the physical blur, a giving of information/energy is offered to and from each performer, thus allowing simultaneous conversations to thrive. This performance recurs on Tuesday October 13, Wednesday October 14, and Thursday October 15.

A presentation by Francesca Zanella, Chair of the C.S.A.C. The Study Centre and Communication Archive (CSAC) is a research centre of the University of Parma founded in 1968 by Professor Arturo Carlo Quintavalle. Right from the start, it concentrated on assembling a collection of fine art, photography, architectural drawings, design, fashion and graphics, as well as organizing exhibitions and publishing catalogues. Since 2007, it has been based at the Valserena Abbey, also known as the Charterhouse of Paradigna, just a few kilometres from Parma. It is divided into five sections - Fine Art, Photography, Media, Project, and Visual Arts - containing around 12 million single items. Its institutional task is the collection, conservation, cataloguing and promotion of cultural heritage. In addition, it provides scientific consultancy to support teaching, research and design, and organizes exhibitions: to date, it has over 100 exhibitions and as many publications to its credit.

Discussion | Reshaping Public Finance and Private Investment to Mitigate Climate Change

Claude Henry and Patrick Bolton will discuss two powerful economic approaches to helping reduce the costs of addressing climate change. In public finance, it is by largely substituting taxes on polluting activities – on CO2 emissions in particular – to traditional taxes on productive activities. In private finance it is by having investors substitute decarbonized assets for carbon-loaded ones in the portfolios they control. This would boost innovation and encourage the adoption of climate-friendly technologies. Panelists will discuss the examples of the Nordic countries with regard to public finance, and the recent acceleration of the decarbonization trends in financial markets to show that these approaches are both feasible and efficient.

In his new book, Wages of Rebellion, Chris Hedges — who has long chronicled the malaise of a society in moral decline — investigates what social and psychological factors cause revolution, rebellion, and resistance. In what will be a timely and thought-provoking conversation, Cornel West will engage Hedges on his message that popular uprisings in the United States and around the world are inevitable in the face of environmental destruction and wealth polarization and together discuss the moral imperative of revolt.
