This is a re-do of the hike that got cut short by rain on August 20. A moderate-paced 12-mile hike along the East River, with great views of the river, bridges, islands and various landmarks. Walk up the East River Greenway, across the Ward's Island Bridge, across the Triboro Bridge to Astoria, along the East River parks and then across the Queensboro Bridge back to Manhattan. The walk will take about 6 hours; there are numerous drop off points once we reach Astoria, which will be about 4 miles and two hours into the walk. Start at Carl Schurz Park then walk Ward's Island, Astoria Park, Socrates Sculpture Park, Rainey Park and Queensbridge Park. Most walking will be on flat, paved paths and sidewalks, but each of the three bridges has steep walkways, the Triboro Bridge has multiple stairways, the walkway across the Triboro Bridge is high and narrow so you may not want to try it if you are wary of heights. Bring food and drink, will also stop at a deli after crossing the Triboro if you want to buy lunch. Eat lunch in Astoria Park.
