Workshop | Cheeses of Europe Event: Meet Mimolette

Mimolette, the French cheese that can be carved like a pumpkin, is the star of this 4-day extravaganza. The Cheeses of Europe will transform the place into a haunted house, complete with Mimolette cheese carvings by world-class sculptor Krai. Hourly cheese carving workshops will be held and treats will be served. Krai is a world-renowned cheese sculptor who was born in a tiny village in Thailand. He moved to Bangkok and was greatly influenced by the members of the Royal Family, all of whom only ate intricately carved fruit. When Krai went to Paris, it was not lost on him that Parisians fancied cheese as much as the people of Thailand revered fruit. Inspired, Krai began to carve French cheese and voila! A career handcrafting exquisite carvings from cheese was born. Takes place Oct. 28-31.

Tour | Greenwich Village Neighborhood Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all. Tours are Mondays and Fridays at 2pm, and Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10am.

Tour | Rockefeller Center Tour

Rockefeller Center is one of the most popular public spaces and tourist attractions in New York City. This depression-era commercial complex takes up over three full city blocks and is rich with history, public art, and art-deco architecture. Built by business mogul John D. Rockefeller Jr. with his own money, he instructed his team of designers and architects to build the most beautiful commercial complex of it’s kind in the world. That vision resulted in what is still one of NYC’s greatest treasures and gave rise to some of NYC’s favorite traditions including the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the famous dance team the Rockettes and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

Lecture | Scripting Battered Women: Paths Not Taken

This talk is part of Kelli Moore’s longer book-length project on legal and extra-legal debates over the subject of trauma and helplessness. In this presentation, she demonstrates surprising links between psychologists Lenore Walker, Martin Seligman, Silvan Tomkins, and Frantz Fanon – who briefly shared an institutional and intellectual milieu in the 1960s and 70s. This shared context, she argues, is a significant yet little remarked aspect of the archival landscape of domestic violence.
