Karen Heuler’s stories have appeared in over 90 literary and speculative magazines and anthologies. She has published four novels and three story collections with university and small presses. She has received an O. Henry award, been shortlisted for a Pushcart prize, for the Iowa short fiction award, the Bellwether award and the Shirley Jackson award for short fiction. Karen Heuler’s latest story collection follows travelers as the familiar becomes strange, and the strange becomes life. Born Jose Miguel Sanchez Gomez, Yoss assumed his pen name in 1988, when he won the Premio David in the science fiction category for Timshel. Together with his peculiar pseudonym, the author's aesthetic of a rocker has allowed him to stand out amongst his fellow Cuban writers. Yoss writes both realistic and science fiction works. Alongside these novels, the author produces essays, reviews, and compilations, and actively promotes the Cuban science fiction literary workshops, Espiral and Espacio Abierto.
