Festival | Day of The Dead Celebration: Mariachi, Workshops, Authentic Mexican Market, Honoring the Lost Ones Ceremony


12-5 pm: market fair - colorful and unique design of traditional Mexican folk art and food vendors. 1 pm: ceremony honoring the loved ones who lost their lives to Covid-19. 2 pm: performance by Juntas Chicas, a group that fuses traditional Mexican music with contemporary sound and New York's diverse culture. 2-4 pm: workshops - create crafts and trinkets related to the Day of the Dead celebration. 4 pm: Mariachi performance. The Day of the Dead is a cherished Mexican tradition that has been celebrated since pre-Hispanic times. During this period, families welcome the souls of their deceased loved ones. You can bring copies of photos, notes, or letters to honor the memories of your departed loved ones in creating a beautiful Ofrenda (Altar).

Performance | The Malaga Ship: A Story of Maine and the Middle Passage


Storyteller Antonio Rocha sings, mimes, and narrates this poetically-toned historical story, partially told from the Malaga ship’s point of view.  Built in Maine in 1832, the ship was used in the clandestine trafficking of Africans to the Americas, including Brazil, Rocha’s homeland. Rocha has toured his shows across the US and to 20 countries on six continents. He was named the 2024 Maine Performing Arts Fellow by the Maine Arts Commission. This program is for 12 years and older.
