Improvisation in music. This is a phrase which is often used but rarely helps shed light on the wide range of various "schools" and modes of improvisation around the world. Can you recognize if it comes from Europe, US, Japan or from a single country? What is the historical difference between improvisation and improvisation as practiced by the new generation? Difference in jazz, new music and experimental music? What is the effect of new technology? Explore the world of improvisation yesterday, today and in the future. Let's talk about it.
12:30 PM - 1:30 PM | Composers of Moving Sounds 2011
Participants: David Fulmer, Eva Reiter, George Lewis, Jiří Kadeřábek, Andreas Stadler (moderator),/br>
The new millennium has seen the return of the composer-performer. This trend, absent amongst many of the composers in the 20th-century, is largely the result of contemporary composers' direct connection with the phenomena of SOUND, and sound production. The composers in question are virtuoso performers of the viola da gamba, the contrabass recorder, the violin, the trombone, and of the voice. Come discuss music making and composition with these four unique artists.
