American composer Nico Muhly has received commissions from The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cambridge and others. He has written works for the concert stage, Broadway and screen (Oscar winner The Reader). Muhly's Marnie, based on Winston Graham's gripping 1961 novel of intrigue and deception which has also been adapted as a film by Alfred Hitchcock, was staged by the Metropolitan Opera during the 2018-19 season. In this performance, mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard stars in the elusive title role, a young con woman who employs myriad false identities until she meets her match in the imperious Mark Rutland, sung by baritone Christopher Maltman. Director Michael Mayer's cinematic production bursts to life in vivid color and features ravishing, '60s-inspired costumes by Oscar-nominated designer Arianne Phillips. Robert Spano conducts. First-come, first-seated, starting one hour before the concert. All guests (aged 12+) are required to provide proof of full vaccination OR a negative COVID-19 test, taken within 72 hours of the event. All guests (aged 2+) must wear a face covering.
