Parade | The …how time passes… Parade

Slowly scrape across a fine tooth comb, and you hear a rhythm; do it quickly and it becomes a pitch. more “…how time passes…” uses the same phenomenon to turn glacially slow percussion into recognizable holiday melodies for a marathon six-hour parade. Composer Chris Peck’s festive, three-minute medley of holiday songs is dramatically slowed down to 1/120th speed, and played over six hours by a group of dedicated percussionists led by Doug Perkins walking down the entire length of Broadway. Later, a video of the parade by Alex Wroten will be sped up to reveal the holiday medley at its regular tempo, as the participants appear to traverse Manhattan at lightning speed. Featuring performers, videographers and tech wizards from the Dartmouth Contemporary Music Lab. Walk along with the percussionists, take a turn playing the drum (precision is required (call if interested), or meet at the end to sing carols (at a normal tempo). less
