Conference | The Scholar and Feminist Conference XXXV: Feminism and Climate Change


Already among the most vulnerable populations worldwide, women as well as other marginalized groups have more been the most acutely affected by the instabilities propagated by climate change. Issues such as water scarcity, drought, and other environmental problems threaten the world's food supply, making it more difficult for disadvantaged groups to obtain the basic necessities of life. Keynote speakers will be Majora Carter, environmental justice activist and president of the Majora Carter Group, a "green" economic consulting firm; and Joni Seager, scholar and activist in feminist geography and global environmental policy, and Chair, Global Studies Department at Bentley University. less

City Walk | Public Schools of CBJ Snyder: Bushwick to Greenpoint Walk


Around 10 miles, city streets. This walk looks at numerous public schools in Brooklyn designed by the more architect Charles B. J. Snyder, Supt. of School Buildings from 1891 to 1923 during the glory days of public education. Replacing the factory/prison approach to education, his buildings embodied contemporary educational-reform concepts about light, fresh air, and playspace for children coming out of crowded tenements. He saw schools as civic monuments and neighborhood anchors. Zigzag in a westerly direction from Bushwick through Williamsburg, ending in Greenpoint. Bring or pick up a lunch.
