Classical Music | Bartok's iconic Fourth String Quartet and more

The central work on the program is Bartok's (1881-1945) iconic and revolutionary Fourth String Quartet (1928), a masterpiece of the 20th century. Momenta Quartet is joined by the Attacca Quartet to round out the program with George Enescu's (1881-1955) brilliant and virtuosic Octet for Strings, Op. 7, a passionate joyride that harnesses the energy and exuberance of youth with the power of eight musicians.

Momenta Quartet has premiered more than 150 works, collaborated with over 200 living composers and was praised by The New York Times for its “diligence, curiosity and excellence.” In the words of The New Yorker, “few American players assume Haydn’s idiom with such ease.”

Praised by The Strad for possessing “maturity beyond its members’ years,” Attacca Quartet was formed at the Juilliard Schooland made their professional debut in 2007 as part of the Artists International Winners Series in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. From 2011-2013 they served as the Juilliard Graduate Resident String Quartet, and for the 2014-2015 season they were selected as the Quartet in Residence by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. As stated by The Washington Post, “Mastery like this is scarce enough in quartets that have played together for decades.”
