Concert | Jacqueline Jonée presents 'All Composers Gay'

Monday, June 16, 2014, 6:00 pm

Free

It is generally known that the composers Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, and Sondheim, Porter, and Grainger were or are gay. Many other historic composers were also gay, but that fact is mostly ignored by the public.

After much research, they have discovered some of the great names of the baroque and romantic eras, such as Handel, Schubert, Saint-Saens, were probably gay. In the case of Schubert, being gay was probably a significant explanation for the difficulties he had being recognized as the genius we all celebrate now.

To celebrate Pride month, Jacqueline Jonée, Jean-Pierre Lemarié and the JouJou Jacquettes Philharmonic Orchestra come to the Library to share the incredible stories of the forgotten gay composers.
