New York luminary DJ Rekha assembles a groundbreaking array of artists to celebrate the 25th Birthday of Basement Bhangra, the inclusive club night that ran for 20 years and championed a style of South Asian dance music that mixes effortlessly with hip-hop and dancehall grooves. Making her NYC debut, Jasmine Sandlas is a once in a generation Punjabi superstar responsible for the dancefloor classics Illegal Weapon and Sip Sip. Helmed by Sunny Jain, hometown heroes Red Baraat merge North Indian elements with hip-hop, jazz, and punk. Live performances include Ganavya, Raaginder, and Sikh Knowledge. Bhangra dance instruction will kick off DJ Rekha's energetic set, accompanied by master drummer of all trades David Sharma. Peppered throughout the day, a cadre of New York City based DJs-Rajuju Brown, DJ Ushka, and ZEEMUFFIN- spin diasporic selections that will make this bacchanal one you don't want to miss.
