City Walk | St. Vincent’s Love Triangle Tour: Sexual Health, Civil Rights, and Memory in the Village

The landscape of Greenwich Village conceals a battleground for reproductive and LGBT rights. Participants will join us for a tour of the area’s hidden sexual health history and activism flashpoints. The former St. Vincent’s Hospital—which played a central role at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic—will serve as a point of departure as we explore the neighborhood amid shifting land values and the fight for sexual and reproductive rights. We will meet in front of the NYC AIDS memorial at St. Vincent’s Triangle. Robert Brenner is a licensed New York City tour guide, a certified member of the Guides Association of New York City (GANYC), and an almost lifelong New Yorker. In 2014 he started his own walking tour company, PigFeetWalkingTours.com, dedicated to lesser-known aspects of New York City history. Since then he has led walking tours for the Municipal Arts Society, the Historic District Council, the Van Alen Institute, Untapped Cities, New York Adventure Club, and many other organizations. He is currently pursuing a MALS in New York Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Staged Reading | Silence: Alexander Graham Bell's Deaf Wife

It only takes one spark of love to change the world forever. Mabel Hubbard Bell was a strong, self-assured woman—bright, passionate, and a complete original. Despite a near-fatal case of childhood scarlet fever that cost her the ability to hear, she learned to talk and lip-read in multiple languages. At nineteen, she married a young inventor named Alexander Graham Bell and became the most significant influence in his life. This is Mabel's story, offering the unique perspective of a woman whose remarkable life was forever connected to her famous, distracted husband. From inspiring invention to promoting public service, Mabel and Alec challenged each other to become strong forces for good. Silence is a beautiful and true love story about how we communicate. Written by Trina Davies. Directed By Frances Hill. Featuring Cameron Bossert, Holland Lane Curtis, Caroline Hewitt, Scott Klavan.

Dance Performance | The 41st Annual Battery Dance Festival (in-person and online)

Christina Carminucci, The Solidarity Series IV: Free Spirits Suite - World Premiere Accompanied by a live jazz band, the fourth original work of the Solidarity Series, is dedicated to presenting tap dance and jazz music together. Linotip, Diagonal & Cain - World Premiere The duet "Diagonal" is inspired by the famous Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century; a moment captured in the performance from his period in the Parisian atelier, where the artist lived, created and loved. "Cain" explores the story of Cain and Abel, the first contradiction of humanity. These pieces were created in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute. Fairul Zahid & Lasalle Dance Singapore, Allocentric, Singapore - World Premiere Hailing from Kuala Lumpur and now based in Singapore, award-winning choreographer Fairul Zahid explores the hierarchy of multiple social identities with music by Olafur Arnalds & Nils, with a cast of six dancers from Lasalle Dance Singapore. Buglisi Dance Theatre, Threads "Threads" takes inspiration from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as narrated by people from all over the world, beginning with Eleanor Roosevelt. Buglisi's newest exploration also includes indigenous voices that expose the traumatic unraveling of our society. These human stories create intimately woven threads that make up the fabric of life. Boca Tuya / Omar Roman de Jesus, Los Perros del Barrio Colosal Through the exaggerated mannerisms of daytime television, the six characters of "Los Perros del Barrio Colosal" take us on a wild romp through the challenges of creative decision-making. Diving dramatically into the adventure of an imagination yet to be physicalized, they ask us to consider the far side of the moments when our ideas threaten, with disjointed urgency, to swallow us whole.
