You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Gallery Talk | A Talk by Artist R.H. Quaytman


Quaytman lives and works in New York. She received a BA in painting from Bard College (1983) and attended postgraduate programs at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin (1984), and the Institut des HautesÉtudes en Arts Plastiques in Paris (1989). Exhibitions include solo shows at the ICA Boston (2010); Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York; Vilma Gold, London; and Silberküppe, Berlin; and a survey at the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, New York (2011). Her work was also included in the 2010 Whitney Biennial, and her painting series I Modi, Chapter 22, was included in the 2011 Venice Biennial.

This visual lecture by Carissa Amash explores the subway's rich architecture and design history through archival photographs and original design drawings from the New York Transit Museum's remarkable collection. Images of the original 1904 stations and buildings designed in the popular and beautiful Beaux-Arts style will be displayed. Discover the changing aesthetic sensibilities as the system expanded between 1915 and 1940, and its design moved seamlessly from Arts and Crafts to the Machine Age style.
