As such the course looks at the philosophies of Dewey, Pierce, Gardner, Waldorf, Amish forms of play, Steiner, et al. We’ll also look at the pedagogy of play and kinder-garden [“children’s garden”] where play and nature combine into learning. Dance Performance | 5 Choreographers: Benjamin Ford Asriel / Luke Gutgsell / Marilyn Maywald / Becky Radway / Heidi Brewer & Gretchen Weber

The semi-annual food distribution benefit series Food for Thought features guest curators who have selected more innovative emerging and established choreographers to present wide range of dynamic performance while benefiting the In-the-Bowery food program. Tonight, brief solos and duets, personal essays are brought to the stage in intimately-scaled movement studies and condensed narratives of time, space, bodies and real people. Benjamin Ford Asriel explores physical and personal identity by reconstructing a dance he created when a three year old boy in My Body Is Me. Luke Gutgsell explores brotherly antagonism, sexuality and power in getting up. Performed by Elise Knudson. In this untitled piece, Marilyn Maywald performs a solo inhabiting what she remembers, what she’s seen, and what she imagines. Becky Radway’s Postcards unravels a bittersweet romance. Lofty partnering and playful interactions between Carlton Ward and Radway tell a story in reverse, culminating in the innocent first meeting of the two individuals. Original music by Scott Radway. While trapped in each other's physical space, performers Heidi Brewer and Gretchen Weber struggle in an obsessive maelstrom as they conspire against each other and the outside world in ye are all against me by choreographer Gretchen Weber. less
