You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. The Michael Kalil Endowment for Smart Design was established in memory of designer Michael Kalil. The fellowships have a two-fold mission: to foster understanding of the design intersections between nature and technology and to support a heightened sense of responsibility for increasing the sustainability of built environments. The 2010 Annual Fellowships are being awarded to Sabine Seymour, a fashion designer who focuses on next generation wearables and the intertwining of aesthetics and function; and Sheila Kennedy and Juan Frano Violich, founding partners of Boston-based Kennedy Violich Architecture, an innovative practice working with industry and communities in need.

On February 23rd, Riccardo Muti makes his Metropolitan Opera debut conducting Giuseppe Verdi’s Attila in a new critical edition prepared by Helen M. Greenwald. The American Institute of Verdi Studies celebrates the occasion with a symposium devoted to this exciting opera from Verdi’s early period. Four distinguished Verdi scholars discuss the libretto, Verdi’s creative process, and issues of musical style and performance practice. The symposium includes four brief papers followed by a round table discussion. Jazz | Blues/Jazz Band: Alex Levin Trio


Originally from Philadelphia, Levin has performed as a leader and a sideman for the last fifteen years. He has played with multiple vocalists and instrumentalists since returning to New York in 2001. He has appeared at clubs throughout the city, and can most frequently be found leading his own trio at such clubs as Kavehaz, Detour, Rue B and Night and Day. Besides leading his trio, he performs regularly with vocalists Ayana del Valle and Heather Moran. He has composed numerous pieces, and has arranged music for top vocalists, including Paulette McWilliams.
