Sarafina, a young Black South African girl living through apartheid is struggling for freedom. She has remained relatively silent in her opposition to her government's racist policies, but when a movement starts in her school to make Arikaans the official language, she joins up with her classmates to protest in the streets. When her favorite teacher is arrested for protesting, Sarafina's anti-government stance grows even stronger.
