Park Walk | Foraging Tour in Brooklyn: Wild Carrots, Bayberry Bushes, Garlic Mustard and More (in-person)

This park offers all the best wild foods of the rich seashore habitat, a great place for everyone to celebrate the beginning of the new growing season. The sandy soil is poor, limiting tree growth but benefiting plants that can take advantage of the unblocked sunlight and relative lack of competition. Many of these species get a head start in late winter and early spring. You will find curly dock, garlic mustard, field garlic, daylily shoots, dandelion greens, common mallow, hairy bittercress, winter cress as well as root vegetables such as wild carrots and sweet wild parsnips. You'll also find plenty of the medicinal plants, including mullein, which has been used for coughs since the days of Hippocrates, and the season's first pineapple-weed, a pineapple-scented relative of chamomile that's used for tea and is good for indigestion. The tour will last for about 4 hours. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing.

Theater | Franz Kafka's Letter to My Father (virtual)

In 1919, an ailing Franz Kafka wrote a letter to his father. In it he put his anger, his fear, his guilt, his loneliness, his ingratitude, his debt, his despair, his joy, his pride, his confusion, his laughter, his hate, his memory, his shame, his tears, his disgust at everything his father represented and his profound hope that he might one day measure up to such a remarkable man. The letter never reached its destination. Now, live from quarantine, you are invited to a curious event — part YouTube meltdown, part hidden-camera show, part seance — as M-34 Productions attempts to deliver it at last. Directed by James Rutherford, and performed by Michael Guagno.

Opera | Met Opera: Puccini's Tosca (virtual, streaming for 23 hours)

Sir David McVicar's bold staging of Tosca, Puccini's operatic thriller of Napoleonic Rome, thrilled Met audiences when it rang in the New Year in 2018. Only weeks later, the production was seen by opera lovers worldwide as part of the Met's Live in HD series of cinema presentations. In this performance, Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva is the passionate title diva, opposite charismatic tenor Vittorio Grigolo as her lover, the idealistic painter Mario Cavaradossi. Baritone Zeljko Lucic is the menacing Baron Scarpia, the evil chief of police who employs brutal tactics to ensnare both criminals and sexual conquests. On the podium, Emmanuel Villaume conducts the electrifying score, which features some of Puccini's most memorable melodies.
