Park Walk | The High Line Tour

The area around the High Line Park was a vital business district of New York City, supplying fresh fruits, French Cheeses and Russian caviar as well as fresh meats to City markets. The hustle and bustle of the streets induced the City to elevate the railroad trains delivering goods to the commercial buildings. When interstate truck traffic made the railway outdated, it fell into ruin, only to be regenerated as a park.

Opening Reception | Exhibition: Adam Putnam

For the last ten years, Putnam’s practice has steadily evolved out of an interest in live action as a means of investigating the intersection of our physical selves with the architectural spaces we inhabit. Through this process, the boundary between interior and exterior space is blurred. Photography, drawing, sculpture and video are all employed interchangeably, as the artist himself slowly dissolves and merges with the physical elements of a space.

Opening Reception | Exhibition: Jonathan Monk's I went to school with someone called Jonathon Monk

Monk’s work is a continuing engagement with notions of authorship and identity, as he recasts iconic works of art with a consistent and incisive humor. In this exhibition, Monk’s own biography becomes a material as objects assume not only their former contexts, but also their relationship to Monk’s own life as an artist. Through this, works themselves become open to misremembrance and approximation.

Drawing on his extensive research and clinical work, Dr. Adam J. Cox will talk about the role of expression in boys' lives and what compels them to be makers of all kinds of things. Many of us have seen that boys enjoy creative pursuits, but there are many unknowns as to why these activities matter to boys, and what specific benefits they derive. Is technique or content more important? What are the benefits of group creativity? How should we talk to boys about their creative interests and products? How do creative priorities change with age?
