Tour | Central Park All-in-One Tour

It is easy to forget that you are in a crowded city while walking through this spectacular park. The original plan for the City of New York, laid out by the City Commissioners in 1811 did not include the park. But as the city grew rapidly in size, we needed a place for New Yorkers to get a breath of fresh air. Central Park, with its 843 acres of meadows, lawns, ponds, lakes and more, was the solution. Today it is one of the best-known parks in the world and is enjoyed by millions-both locals and tourists alike.

Conference | Making Cities3: Innovation, Incubation, Inclusion

Making Cities3: Innovation, Incubation, Inclusion is part of a three-year research project between the Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok), University of Buenos Aires and the New School and will focus on three cities: Bangkok, Buenos Aires and New York through a multidisciplinary approach. While the previous seminar in Buenos Aires in May 2013 focused heavily on exclusion, the September Symposium hopes to extend our study of exclusion/inclusion to the productive side of the economy. They will explore three central themes: innovation, incubation and inclusion in order to better understand the complex dynamics of the maker economy within cities and the areas of convergence between design and the social sciences in each of the three cities.

Lecture | Artist Talk: Bruno Latour

While politics has always been linked to geography, the Earth itself has largely been seen as playing a backstage role, the mere window-dressing for human intention and interest. Bruno Latour notes that with the advent of the epoch known as the 'Anthropocene,' the Earth is no longer in the background, but very much in the foreground, in constant rivalry with human intentionality.
