You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Poetry Reading | Yusef Komunyakaa, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Poet


Yusef Komunyakaa grew up in the deep South during the dawn of the Civil Rights movement. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he was also a writer and the managing editor for the military newspaper, the Southern Cross. He began writing poetry several years after he returned to the United States. By 1979, at the age of 32, Komunyakaa had earned a BA, an MA, and an MFA, and had published two collections of poems, Dedications & Other Darkhorses and Lost in the Bonewheel Factory. Also reading: Idra Novey is the author most recently of Clarice: The Visitor, a collection of poems and images in collaboration with the artist Erica Baum. Her debut novel Ways to Disappear is forthcoming from Little, Brown in 2016.

Tour | Let It Go: A Tashlich Walk


Join ritualists Amichai Lau-Lavie and Shawn Shafner on a Judeo-Pagan walk in Manhattan during the first week of the Jewish New Year. Participants will radically revise Tashlich, the annual Jewish shedding ceremony, in which breadcrumbs are substituted for transgressions and thrown into a living body of water. The group will walk from Hell's Kitchen down to the river, pausing to cast away our private and public histories: discarding assumptions, handing over possessions and making room for change.
