Opening Reception | 2 Art Shows: Sightings / Complicities

Whenever we open our eyes, we see. But we don’t always observe. Observation is a form of attentiveness, a way of focusing on objects and parsing out their permutations in or out of the present context. Sightings, Diana Cooper’s new show and her first in 6 years, is an adventure in observation, an invitation to attentiveness. In his first solo exhibition with the gallery in nearly five years, William Powhida returns with Complicities, a new body of painfully obvious, politically didactic, research-based, and precisely rendered works on paper. Produced over the last ten months in the wake of the crisis at the Whitney Museum, Powhida makes visible generalized and abstract systems — investment, real estate, museum boards, private family-owned companies, curation, public policy — to counter map the connections between art and the ruling class.

Performance | Oh Heroine How I Love You!: Modern Play Passing Through Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights

75 min. Writer, Director: Callie Nestleroth. Performer: Sara Page. Meet with Cathy Earnshaw in her world from Emily Bronte's classic tale Wuthering Heights, and be taken by her on a journey that goes beyond the confines of her book. Whether from the many film adaptations, or Kate Bush's singular song, Cathy and Heathcliff are infamous characters. But do we ever consider the effect they have on those who learn their story? Oh Heroine How I Love You! transports you into the book and onto the Moors, to voyage with Cathy in this interactive one-woman show. You feel as if you are reading a book that has come to life around you and in being immersed in her world are called upon to assist this character who is lost in her own adaptations.
