About the Composers
Schubert (1797-1828) was an Austrian composer of the late Classical and early Romantic eras. Despite his short lifetime, Schubert left behind a vast oeuvre, including more than 600 secular vocal works (mainly lieder), seven complete symphonies, sacred music, operas, incidental music, and a large body of piano and chamber music.

Modesta Bor (1926-1998) was a Venezuelan composer who composed for orchestra, chamber ensemble, piano, and vocal performance, writing more than 95 choral works for mixed and 130 for equal-voice choir.

Ned Rorem (1923-2022) was an American composer of contemporary classical music. Best known for his art songs, which number over 500, Rorem was the leading American of his time writing in the genre. Although he wrote works for piano, orchestra, and chamber ensemble and solo instruments, he considered all of his music vocal and song-like in nature.

Richard Strauss (1864-1949) was a German composer, conductor, pianist, and violinist. Considered a leading composer of the late Romantic and early modern eras, he has been described as a successor of Wagner and Liszt. Along with Gustav Mahler, he represents the late flowering of German Romanticism, in which pioneering subtleties of orchestration are combined with an advanced harmonic style.

Felix Jarrar is a composer and pianist who has performed at Symphony Space, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, and more. His works have been performed by artists from the Metropolitan Opera.

Hugo Wolf (1860-1903) was an Austrian composer of Slovene origin, particularly noted for his art songs, or Lieder. He brought to this form a concentrated expressive intensity which was unique in late Romantic music.

Purcell (1659-1695), whose style of Baroque music was uniquely English, was also known for incorporating Italian and French elements into his pieces. He is generally considered among the greatest English opera composers.
