Filled with the zesty cadences of the authentic Cuban experience, Malpaso Dance Company, led by the inspired, award-winning artistic director Osnel Delgado (graduate and professor of the dance-domain-revered National Dance School), brings modern Havana-based takes on rumba & salsa-influenced movement to the awaiting world.

Daymé Arocena
Daymé Arocena is a musically magnanimous ambassador of Afro-Cuban culture, ebulliently bestowing her bravura onto the rest of the globe. At only 23 years old, Arocena has already made an indelible mark on the Cuban music landscape with her dynamic blend of jazz and Cuban neo-soul. Applauded by The New York Times for her ability to unite “cosmopolitan musicianship with deep roots,” she splices complex phrasing with expressly Cuban elements, such as Santerian chanting.

Nickodemus
Nickodemus is a New York-raised DJ and producer, who has traveled to the hottest dance spots on the globe, igniting the decks with NYC bravura. Ever since the 90’s, he has been producing original music and remixing tracks for a host of music titans, including Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Billy Holiday, Mr Scruff feat. Alice Russell, Thievery Corporation, Miguel Migs, The Balkan Beat Box, Quantic, The Pimps of Joytime & many more.

Featuring 6pm pre-show panel “Cuban Music and Dance in the Mix” with moderator Ned Sublette and panelists Dayme Arocena, Nickodemus, and Yesenia Fernandez-Selier. Ned Sublette, educational Cuban music travel leader, author of Cuba and Its Music: From the First Drums to the Mambo, longtime producer for Afropop Worldwide, and co-founder of the Qbadisc record label, will talk with the invited guests about Cuba as a space for music and dance, how Cuban music and dance transform when they are exported, and how they fit into the mix in the United States.
