Lesson | Mushrooms of NYC: What is in Season!

Monday, September 30, 2024, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Free

Join mushroom educator Paul Sadowski in an immersive workshop where you'll discover the fascinating world of edible mushrooms right here in the New York City area. Led by an experienced forager and mycologist, this workshop will inform you of the mushrooms currently in season right here in New York!

Whether you're a novice enthusiast or an experienced forager, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to connect with the natural world, expand your culinary repertoire, and develop valuable skills for sustainable living. Join us as we embark on a foraging adventure through the urban wilderness of New York City and uncover the delicious delights waiting to be discovered beneath our feet.

Paul Sadowski has been an active amateur mycologist for over twenty years. In 2010 Paul received The North American Mycological Association's Harry and Elsie Knighton Service Award. In 2007 and 2008 Paul embarked on a survey of fungi within the Sanctuary's property in the New Jersey Palisades with the Greenbrook Sanctuary naturalist, Nancy Slowik. This experience led him to study Polypores with the eminent mycologist Tom Volk at a seminar held at Eagle Hill, the Humboldt Field Research Center in Steubenville, Maine. Paul has presented numerous programs in New York and New Jersey for an audience of the mycologically curious members of garden clubs and conservancies, including yearly presentations and walks at Inwood Hill Park on behalf of the NYC Parks Department in cooperation with the Greenacre Foundation.
