Opening Reception | Former Guggenheim Fellow Rodrigo Valenzuela: Los restos (Photography & Installation)

In Los restos, acclaimed artist Rodrigo Valenzuela constructs haunting studio-built scenes using cinder blocks, corrugated metal, and wood—materials that evoke construction, labor, and architectural decay. These sculptural assemblages are photographed in stark black-and-white, blurring the line between documentation and fiction. The resulting works resemble miniature ruins, layered with references to modernist painting, Minimalist sculpture, and Latin American Brutalist architecture. Valenzuela is a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, Harpo Foundation Grant, and the 2025 Richard Pousette-Dart Award. His work has been exhibited at the New Museum, Frye Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, and BRIC, among many others.

Lecture | Russian-Soviet Literary Criticism: Ideas of Personality & Authorship (In Person AND Online!)

This lecture explores and compares the notion of "personality" in the thought of Grigory Vinokur with the concept of "author" in the theoretical system of Lev Pumpyansky, considering the distinct intellectual backgrounds of the two scholars while also seeking to highlight points of convergence as well as divergence within the broader and richly textured landscape of Russian-Soviet literary criticism. Scholars and literary critics sought to understand how identity is constructed within literary works and endeavoured to provide a theoretical framework capable of accounting for the complexity of the literary phenomenon and its manifold implications. During the 1920s, key concepts such as "personality"(lichnost'), "literary personality" (literaturnaia lichnost'), "author" (avtor), and "biography" (biografiia) began to take shape, ultimately becoming cornerstones of critical discourse and resonating across literary traditions beyond Russia.

Opening Reception | Latin Artists Perspectives: Redefining Pleasure in the Context of Labor

Hand-stitching, weaving, repetitive mark-making, and arduous manipulation of materials can be seen throughout the pieces debuting in this multi-artist exhibit. The collection of Latin artists collectively share their respective pieces that reflect their personal narratives associated with labor. The collection nods its head to labour associated with domesticity and immigrant labour -- often highlighting the labor of their hands. To the other end, pleasure is nodded to as a necessary aspect of social justice

Concert | Lo-Fi Pop Music: Matt Costa (In Person AND Online!)

Lo-fi music often has a "do-it-yourself" or home-recording feel, with a rawness and authenticity that can be very appealing. The combination of lo-fi production and folk/pop songwriting often results in a chill, relaxed, and sometimes melancholic atmosphere. The versatile and evocative voice of singer-songwriter Matt Costa has been diligently honed over two decades of touring, both solo and with a roster of indie rock artists that includes Oasis, Modest Mouse, Ryan Adams, G.Love, and Death Cab for Cutie, among many more. Costa has written and recorded in the studio while moonlighting as an accomplished filmmaker and soundtrack composer. His latest project, Explorations of Sight and Sound, merges Costa's many talents with a multimedia showcase event that draws from his sizable catalogue of lo-fi folk pop songs, spiced with an eclectic selection of moody instrumentals and played in concert with a series of self-produced short films that explores beautiful landscapes including California's Indigenous cultures and the land and native culture of Sardinia, Italy. There are three ways to access this event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Tuesday before the event at noon. 3. The event will also be streamed live for free on the linked web page.
