Canadian artist Chloe Wise's work spans multiple media: sculptures, video, installations, and oil paintings. She has explored themes such as consumer culture, branding, performance, and identity. In all her work, she's used satire, irony, and humor to drive her point home. Her newest point of inspiration is that of perception and reality. The human eye and ear only detect minuscule percentages of what the electromagnetic and sound frequency spectras offer us. Moreso, we are naive and ignorant of what is lurking in our periphery. Wise's paintings are a collection of vignettes in a keyhole, emphasising the narrowness of our realities.

Talk | Discussion on New Philosophy Book: Thinking with Our Ears (In Person AND Online!)
Enjoy a spirited conversation around the release of the English translation of Thinking with Our Ears, written by Director of La Maison Francaise, Francois Noudelmann, translated by Brian J. Reilly. Synopsis: What if we opened our ears to the sound of ideas? We often forget that thought makes noise, whether a great din or light rustling. We have even tried to silence thought. Still, in philosopher's writings, we can hear cries and murmurs. Their voices and accents are part of their thoughts. From the acoustic devices of antiquity to the use of the microphone today, Thinking with Our Ears puts a stethoscope to philosophy, proposing a sound ecology of thought to study the sound environments in which philosophy is created and which philosophy helps create. The panel discussion will include Brian J. Reilly (translator of Thinking with Our Ears), Pauline Nadrigny (Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pantheon-Sorbonne), Sylvaine Guyot (Professor in the Department of French Literature, Thought, and Culture, NYU), Simon Leser (translator and graduate student in the Department of French Literature, Thought, and Culture, NYU).

Open Studios | New York Artists of Influence: The 1980s Art Boom
The 1980s were a decade of discovery and new ideas; a sense of possibility and fluidity was infectious. Economic recession swung to prosperity, cable TV, along with commodification and consumer desire emerged, all while the Cold War and the HIV crisis came to the forefront. New York was a place at the center of all of this, being a place for discussion -- especially in the world of art. Ultimately, the 80s reflected a mass movement of youth popular culture from music into art. This exhibition celebrates all of these points, highlighting pieces from influential artists of the time, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, and many more.

What Do I Do with All This Love by Valerie Huhn is a body of work that revisits a question Huhn first asked herself more than twenty-five years ago, when a move from New York City to San Francisco -- and an unexpected breakup -- left her wondering what to do with all the love she still carried. A Rilke quote gifted to her then urged patience and trust in life's unanswered questions. Decades later, standing in her studio surrounded by fingerprinted mylar sheets casting flickering reflections, she realized she was finally living her way into an answer -- through art. This show traces her journey from escaping a psychiatric hospital in Pennsylvania to the freedom she found in New York's creative community, and the hard-earned understanding that freedom and love must be nurtured and protected. What Do I Do With All This Love is both a question and a testament to the enduring power of holding, releasing, and transforming love.

Contemporary visual and performance artist, P.Staff's newest installation finds a focal point in simulating the sensations of the human body, specifically when possessed or controlled. Staff merges architecture with the body while psychically perverting our integration with the built environment. Her installation includes a central video project, which is spread across three floors, as well as a series of new sculptures.

Banned in France for nearly thirty years, this film stands as a vital work of political cinema and chronicle of working-class life in postwar Marseille. This film is set against the backdrop of the early 1950s dockworkers’ strikes in Marseilles, when the workers—discovering they were unwittingly loading weapons by day and unloading coffins by night—go on strike in opposition to France’s war in Vietnam. The film was censored for 30 years for its anti-colonial, anti-war message and open solidarity with the labor movement, and only rediscovered decades later. A new chamber opera by Pulitzer Prize finalist Alex Weiser with libretto by Ben Kaplan tells the story of Yiddish linguist Yudel Mark’s unfinished effort to create a comprehensive Yiddish dictionary. With mystical and historical figures interwoven, the opera reflects on the resilience of Yiddish culture in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the transformative power of language. Performed by tenor Jason Weisinger, baritone Gideon Dabi, and mezzo sopranos Kristin Gornstein, Kate Maroney, and Kelly Guerra. An ensemble of clarinet, string quintet, and piano led by conductor David Bloom. Directed by Rebecca Miller Kratzer.

The pinnacle of the performance is the world premiere of Andrew Yee’s Trans Requiem, a work for trans voices, choirs, and orchestra that amplifies the beauty, strength, and diversity of the trans experience and affirms the dignity of every voice. Complementing the work is a Trinity arrangement of Samuel Barber’s stunning Agnus Dei (Adagio for Strings) and Sonic Meditations by Pauline Oliveros.

Completing the lineup, The Moon in the Daytime provides a contemplative look at intergenerational ties and the quiet strength of everyday life.
